Mitchell pleaded guilty this week to being a felon in possession of a firearm after he was busted following a police pursuit just seven months into his term of supervised release on the same charge, federal authorities announced.

According to court documents, in November last year, Mitchell, 30, was pulled over by Richmond Police officers during a traffic stop after he was caught by patrol officers speeding, driving recklessly, and swerving around other motorists.

When they attempted to catch up to him, officials said that he initially drove away at speeds approaching 80 mph, nearly veering off the road before coming to rest as he attempted to hide something in the front seat.

Prosecutors say that during the stop, a loaded Stoeger STR-9, 9mm, semi-automatic pistol was found stuffed in between the driver’s seat and center console, where Mitchell was sitting.

At the time of the stop, Mitchell was on supervised release for a 2019 conviction, and he was also previously convicted in 2015 of malicious wounding and use of a firearm in commission of a felony.

When he is sentenced in December, Mitchell will face up to 15 years in prison.
